Hospitalization rates are dropping for the major diagnoses.
Hospitalization rates, especially for cancer, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, and breast are dropping. Many of these diagnoses are now treated on an outpatient basis. Additionally the economics of chronic disease have exploded.
Asthma is the leading cause of hospitalization of children in Greenville under the age of 18.

Greenville's diabetes rates is lower than South Carolina.
The diabetes rate in Greenville 8s 8%, compared to 11% in South Carolina.
Sexually Transmitted Disease
As expected, rates for STDs are slightly lower in Greenville than for the rest of the state. The rates are decreasing, but Greenville should continue to pay attention to the rates.
